Oil, well...

Baby oil works wonders.
I had the chance to use one of photography's time-tested tricks on a recent photo shoot.
My subject was a 21-year-old local boxer who was willing to do anything. So, with my husband standing in as my light stand, I smeared baby oil on Steve Claggett to make his sweat stay longer and stand out more.
It was a little funny having my husband watch as I smeared the oil on this young man's face but, as someone pointed out to me, it would have been funnier if it was my husband who was doing the smearing.
Oh, and my husband wrote an amazing story about Steve, too.

Muddy Rodeo

Mud. Rain. Cold.
Makes for great rodeo pix, not so great for me and my gear.

Stampede Parade

I'm not a fan of any type of parade and, as much as I like the Calgary Stampede, I loathe the parade.
Crowds. Noise. Sore feet. Floats. Clowns.
I decided this year i would go early to catch some of the nice light and to try to do it differently than I have in the past. (And, really, I'm lucky to say I do this for a job anyway.)
